The Archbishop of Cagliari and Vice President of the Italian Bishops' Conference, Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, went to Lviv, Ukraine, for a visit to the Latin Archbishop, Monsignor Mieczysław Mokrzycki. Also present with him was Fr Marco Pagniello, director of Caritas Italy.

The two bishops have been linked by a deep friendship since the time of their studies in Rome, Baturi brought to his Ukrainian brother the "spiritual solidarity" of the Cagliari church while ensuring concrete acts of support for urgent humanitarian needs.

“I went to this tormented land - says Monsignor Baturi - to meet a dear friend and assure him of the proximity of our diocese. I noted the wounds of this nation, the sense of fear and precariousness that is felt when the alarms are activated in the city, the need for fraternal support to alleviate the suffering of a severely tried population. It was nice to see a church, and priests in particular, mobilized, like the Good Samaritan, to give help to the suffering people, without distinction of political and religious affiliation. The present pain adds to the concern already felt for the future, a time of material and spiritual reconstruction. I was able to breathe a great determination to preserve the dignity of a nation and to resist the unjust aggression ”.

The prelate of the Latin church of Leopoli expressed his gratitude to the diocese of Cagliari. "I am very grateful - the words of Mieczysław Mokrzycki - to His Excellency Giuseppe Baturi, and I am happy that he came here, as a pastor, to a suffering land, tried by war, to put his humanity at the service of the suffering of this nation . Here Monsignor Baturi was able to speak to so many people and listen to our difficulties, and I hope that the proximity of the diocese of Cagliari will continue to give support and hope to the Ukrainian people who suffer so much and who need these gestures of love ”.
