Controversy and protests in Zimbabwe, a southern African country with almost 16 million inhabitants.

What is causing discussion is the crowning of a 21-year-old model, Brooke Bruk-Jackson, as Miss National, now called to represent the country at the next Miss Universe competition.

What is causing discussion is the fact that the young queen has white skin, when 98% of the population of Zimbabwe instead has black skin.

The 21-year-old, among other things, was the only one of the 25 contestants who was not black. A characteristic that according to many would have even favored her. Be that as it may, for many commentators and web users the model does not really represent the country and therefore should not participate in Miss Universe on behalf of Zimbabwe.

But there are also those who defended the choice, writing that «the reactions of Zimbabweans are truly shameful and disgusting. Brooke is from Zimbabwe, period!

During the competition, the new miss was asked what her greatest fear was and she, perhaps foreseeing the controversy that would then be raised, replied: «I would like anyone who enters my life to be inspired and transformed not by my appearance, but by what is inside my heart."
