The conversation between Giorgia Meloni and Joe Biden lasted over an hour and a half in the Oval Office. The Italian prime minister and the US president have found total harmony regarding support for Ukraine and the fact that they see China as a "challenge and an opportunity". Meloni has also received a credit opening for the Italian moves, especially on the issue that has become the figure of his foreign policy: to look to the southern side, not to leave the Mediterranean area uncovered anymore. And that Africa which, on the other hand, has great potential to develop, not only to stop the increasingly impetuous wave of migrants.

Upon entering the White House, Meloni told reporters: "I don't feel like Cinderella, I am aware of my role and of the country I represent". Curiosity for the first female and right-wing Italian prime minister to set foot in the Oval Office was high. The American press also asked for information and details on the young Italian leader at the head of the most right-wing executive in Republican history, as the US media underline.

The prime minister had already met with representatives of the Senate and the House on Capitol Hill. Bipartisan talks, during which Meloni illustrated Italy's attention and strategy for the global South, with Africa at the center which will also be the leitmotif of the Italian-led G7.
