The countries that recently joined NATO, Sweden and Finland, have automatically become "targets" of Russian forces in possible retaliations even with "a nuclear component".

The incendiary statements are usually made by Dmitry Medvedev , former Russian president and current deputy secretary of the Security Council.

These countries, he said, "are now in a hostile bloc to us. This means that they have automatically become a target for our armed forces, with possible retaliatory strikes and even a nuclear component ."

Medvedev also spoke about the mistakes made in the past by Russia, which "should not have trusted" several Western countries, including Italy.

"In the first post-Soviet years," he said, quoted by Ria Novosti, " we trusted too much those who were not to be trusted at all, who did not deserve our trust ." Among the countries Medvedev cited were "the United States and Western Europe, including the largest countries, Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy ."
