Two of the four bodies of the Italian divers who died during a dive in the Maldives have been recovered . This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Maldivian president, while the mission to recover the remaining two will begin tomorrow.

The bodies are those of Federico Gualtieri and Monica Montefalcone.

"I want to remember them smiling," said Carlo Sommacal, husband of the UniGe professor who died along with their daughter Giorgia. "I'm devastated," he added. "I just learned on TV that they found Monica and Chicco (Federico Gualtieri, ed.). I don't have the strength to say anything now; I haven't slept for days, I'm having nightmares. I just have to try to hold on, because my twenty-year-old son Matteo is here. What would happen?" Sommacal said he won't travel to Malé, where they'll presumably take the bodies. "I'll wait for them here."

The Finnish team's dive lasted about two hours.

"It is indeed a complex dive," Laura Marroni, vice president and CEO of the private Dan Europe foundation, explained to Rainews24 this morning. "Inside the cave, the depth drops even further, and when you're dealing with obstructed spaces, darkness, and the possibility of poor visibility, operations become complex." "For us, safety is the number one priority, so the rescue team knows that this must be the priority and that they must not put themselves in danger."

The Rome Prosecutor's Office is investigating manslaughter. According to reports , prosecutors in Piazzale Clodio will order autopsies on the bodies as soon as they return to Italy. The investigators, who will delegate the matter to law enforcement, will also interview the Italian nationals who were aboard the "Duke of York" safari boat.
