Christian Brueckner, a 44-year-old German, was officially indicted by the Portuguese authorities for the disappearance of Maddie McCann, the three-year-old British girl who disappeared during a holiday with her parents in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on 3 May 2007.

This was announced by the Portimao Prosecutor's Office: "As part of the investigation into the circumstances of Madeleine McCann's disappearance in 2007, a person was indicted on Wednesday", reads a sparse statement. The Attorney General and the Criminal Police have not yet released any official comments.

Since 2020, the German authorities have claimed to have evidence of the murder of little Maddie and that they identify Brueckner, a repeat pedophile already in prison for other crimes as the main suspect.

The 44-year-old is detained for pedophilia and sexual assault in a maximum security cell in Oldenburg, at the time of Maddie's disappearance he allegedly carried out several repairs at the Ocean Club of Praia da Luz.
