The Princess of Asturias, Leonor of Bourbon, 18, eldest daughter of King Felipe VI and his wife Letizia, has sworn allegiance to the Spanish Constitution . From this moment, therefore, he is officially the heir to the Spanish throne.
“I ask the Spaniards to believe in me,” he said in his speech during the ceremony, at the Royal Palace in Madrid.
"I undertake to respect and defend the Charter and the democratic principles it illustrates" , he added.
Then Felipe VI, the current sovereign, spoke: «Dear Leonor, you will not be alone on your journey. You will find support
necessary in your family, as in that of the Spanish people who will be able to recognize your dedication by demonstrating encouragement and affection. Your oath - concluded the king - is the solemn expression of the commitment of those who embody the continuity of our parliamentary monarchy with our democratic principles and constitutional values".
