The young man arrested by the Guardia Civil for the brutal beating of Salvatore Sinagra, the thirty-year-old Sicilian originally from Favignana who is fighting for his life at the Doctor Negrin hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is a 25-year- old resident of Lanzarote, already known for his criminal record.
There are solid evidence against him, the footage from the cameras and some testimonies . The officers arrested him on Saturday evening at 11:40 pm, after the interrogation in the barracks the 25-year-old was formally charged with the crime of serious injuries . Given the seriousness of Sinagra's conditions, the magistrate must evaluate whether to charge him with the crime of attempted murder .
An attack of "unheard-of violence" , gratuitous and cold, which occurred after a trivial argument in a bar in Playa del Carmen , while Salvatore was smoking a cigarette in front of the bar, having by now forgotten the argument, according to what Andrea Sinagra, his father, a fisherman from the Egadi islands, said.
Distressed by the serious conditions of his son, hospitalized after a skull fracture and deep injuries in intensive care and in a pharmacologically induced coma, Andrea immediately rushed to his bedside, together with his other son and their cousin. They are assisted by the consul in charge of the vice consulate of Italy in the Canary Islands, Gianluca Cappelli Bigazzi, and they trust that the "solid investigative activity of the civil guard" will bring justice.
Salvatore "is in a serious but stable condition" and "the health workers are doing everything they can to ensure that he maintains his vital parameters", explained Consul Cappelli Bigazzi, after the young man, transferred last week from Lanzarote to Las Palmas, underwent delicate surgery to reduce the hematoma on his brain, caused by the beating, probably caused by a knuckle-duster.
Part of the violent scene was reportedly captured by the bar's cameras. Investigators searched the home of the 25-year-old convicted criminal arrested in search of a possible iron weapon with which the young Sicilian may have been beaten. After having lived for years on the island of Jameos del Agua and volcanoes, where he had run a café, the thirty-year-old from Favignana was about to leave Lanzarote and return to his native Sicily.
