North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is due to travel to Russia in September to meet with President Vladimir Putin and discuss the possibility of supplying Moscow with more weapons for its war in Ukraine and other forms of military cooperation, the New York Times teased, citing executives Americans and allies and the White House then confirmed the possible meeting.

In a very rare exit from his country, Kim is expected to travel on an armored train from Pyongyang to Vladivostok, where he will meet the Russian president as part of the Eastern Economic Forum, which will take place from 10 to 13 September. Then the two could also move to Moscow.

Putin wants Kim to agree to send artillery shells and anti-tank missiles to Russia, while Kim wants Moscow to supply North Korea with advanced technology for satellites and nuclear-powered submarines. The Pyongyang leader is also seeking food aid for his impoverished nation.
