Princess Kate, wife of British Crown Prince William, has completed chemotherapy, which she began in February following a cancer diagnosis announced by the Royal Family in March.

She announced it herself in a new video full of emotion and personal references, in which the princess admits that these last few months have been an "incredibly difficult" period for her and her family.

Kate's announcement that she has finished chemotherapy represents a significant step forward, but "at this stage we cannot yet say" that the princess is cured.

Kensington Palace underlined this in a statement reported by the BBC on the sidelines of the broadcast of the princess's video message.

At the moment, a possible partial return to the monarchy's public representation activities is foreseen, but "later": probably, the BBC reports, starting with the Remembrance Day ceremonies in memory of the fallen, in November.

Here is the princess's full message, posted on social media:

“As the summer draws to a close, I can’t tell you what a relief it is to finally have completed my chemotherapy treatment.

The last nine months have been incredibly difficult for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and unfamiliar road.

The cancer “journey” is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. In a humbling way, it also brings you face to face with your vulnerabilities in a way you’ve never considered before, and with that, gives you a new perspective on everything.

Most of all, this time has reminded William and I to reflect and be grateful for the simple but important things in life that many of us often take for granted. Like loving and being loved.

Doing everything I can to stay cancer free is my goal now. Even though I have finished chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

I am still looking forward to getting back to work and undertaking some more public engagements in the coming months, when I can.

Despite all that has happened, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation for life.

William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from everyone who is helping us at this time. The kindness, empathy and compassion of everyone has been truly touching.

To all who are continuing their journey with cancer, I want to say: I stand with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness comes light, so let that light shine brightly."
