Seven people were injured, including two seriously, in an armed attack on a bus in central Jerusalem .

According to police reports, the shooting took place near the Tomb of David , not far from the Western Wall, in the old city. "There are a total of seven injured, all conscious, one woman and six men, of which two are serious," explained Zaki Heller, spokesman for Magen David Adom, the Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross.

"We arrived quickly on the spot - explained two rescuers -. Passers-by stopped us to treat two men in their 30s who had been injured on the bus. They were conscious and were walking with some wounds in the upper part of the body".

The manhunt began immediately, "which was attended by large forces of the police, the border guard and the Shin Bet (secret services)", explained in a statement from the local authorities. The terrorist then " handed himself over to the police - continues the statement - and also handed over the weapon with which he carried out the shooting".

According to the military radio, the man has been identified as Amir Sidawi, 26, a resident of East Jerusalem and holder of an Israeli identity card.
