Law enforcement officers opened fire and used tear gas to disperse demonstrators who had gathered in Saqqez , Iranian Kurdestan, to commemorate Mahsa Amini , the 22-year-old arrested for not wearing a veil correctly and beaten to death .

This was announced on Twitter by “Hengaw”, an organization based in Norway that deals with human rights violations in Kurdestan.

In the morning a large crowd had gathered in the cemetery where the girl is buried, to remember her on the 40th day after her death which is traditionally celebrated in Iran as the end of mourning.

"Down with the dictator", "Kurdestan, the tomb of the fascists", "Women, life, freedom" and "We are all Mahsa, you fought and we too will fight", were some of the slogans shouted by the demonstrators who managed to demonstrate with courage despite threats from the government to close the roads leading to the cemetery to avoid protests .

At the same time, Iran blocked internet access "for security reasons" , the Isna agency said.

The girl's case caused outrage throughout the country and around the world and demonstrations that continue after more than a month.
