The machinery that keeps little Indi Gregory alive, the 8-month-old English girl suffering from a very serious mitochondrial disease, was apparently disconnected around 11am in England (12pm in Italy).
This was made known by the lawyer Simone Pillon who, together with the spokesperson of Pro Vita & Famiglia onlus Jacopo Coghe, is following the developments of the Italian side of the matter, in contact with the English lawyers and the little girl's family.
In yesterday's hearing the English judges had set the deadline for the detachment of the vital devices to be Monday 13 November , but subsequently, it was specified by the family's lawyers that the correct interpretation of the sentence indicates that the detachment would be carried out as soon as possible, that is, already today.
The residual hopes of the little girl's family therefore vanish: despite the irreducible opposition of her parents and the legal battle supported by Italy for a transfer to the Bambino Gesù in Rome, the decision of the English judges is confirmed.
Pope Francis also "closes himself to the family of little Indi Gregory, to her father and mother, prays for them and for her, and addresses his thoughts to all the children who in these same hours throughout the world live in pain or risk death life because of illness and war." This was communicated by the director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni.
