From today, the Republic of San Marino is the first country in the world to have a Head of State who belongs to the LGBT community.
This is Paolo Rondelli, former vice president of Arcigay Rimini and first ambassador of the Republic to the United States, who has become one of the two new captains regent, heads of state who have no executive powers and who remain in office for six months.
So far, in the world, there have been openly gay ministers and heads of government, but never heads of state.
