Hashi Omar Hassan , the Somali involved in the investigation into the death of Ilaria Alpi , the Italian journalist killed together with her operator Miran Hrovatin in Mogadishu on March 20, 1994 , was killed in an attack in Mogadishu.

The site Garowe Online reports, according to which Hassan was the victim of the explosion of a bomb placed under the seat of his car .

Hassan was sentenced in the second degree and in the Supreme Court for having been part of the commando that killed the Italian journalists, but a subsequent appeal led to acquittal after more than 16 years of imprisonment . The Italian state compensated him with 3 million euros .

"It was the Islamic terrorists , no doubt. They killed him for the purpose of extortion for the money he got for his unjust detention in Italy. They are people looking for money and if you don't agree with them they kill you", explained the lawyer Antonio Moriconi, historical defender of Hassan .

For their part, the National Federation of the Italian Press, the Order of Journalists and the Usigrai , with the lawyer Giulio Vasaturo, will deposit in the next few hours a request to the public prosecutor in Rome, to the Italian embassy in Mogadishu and to that of the Somali in Italy, to solicit " targeted investigations into the dynamics of the attack in which Hashi Omar Hassan lost his life, also in order to verify the existence of a possible link between this heinous crime and the investigation, still ongoing, into the murder by Ilaria Alpi and Miran Hrovatin ".

THE INQUIRY - On the Alpi murder there is still an investigation file open in the Public Prosecutor's Office in Rome . A proceeding for which the prosecutors had, in September 2019, solicited the archiving for the second time but on which the offended parties had opposed: the relatives of the journalist of Tg3 and the National Federation of the Press, Usigrai and Odg.

In October three years ago, the investigating judge rejected the request of the Public Prosecutor, arranging a new investigation activity and in particular to investigate a dozen points which, according to him, deserve further verification. The judge asked the Prosecutor to listen to the leaders of Aisi, to carry out investigations in relation to the delay with which it was transmitted,

in April 2018, from Florence the transcript of an interception between two Somali citizens in which the two, speaking of what happened in Mogadishu, affirm that Ilaria "was killed by the Italians" .

Before being killed, Ilaria Alpi and Miran Hrovatin were conducting an investigation into arms and waste trafficking in Somalia.
