It was supposed to be a dream cruise but for the 206 passengers aboard the Ocean Explorer the trip did not go according to plan. In fact, the ship ran aground on Monday in the north-west of Greenland and remained stuck even after high tide. Three people positive for Covid-19 were also on board .

According to Brian Jensen of the Danish Arctic Joint Command, no one is in danger of life and no damage has been reported. The Covid cases have been isolated and the rest of the crew is fine . “Our rescue units are far away and the weather can be very unfavorable,” he said in a statement, “and the nearest Danish navy ship was about 2,200 km away.” The vessel would be heading for the cruise and could arrive to the rescue as early as tomorrow.

The Ocean Explorer, 104 meters long and 18 meters wide, ran aground on Monday in Alpefjord, in the North-East Greenland National Park, the largest and most northerly in the world. The place is known for its icebergs.
