Global warming has exceeded the limit of 1.5 degrees centigrade for the first time (1.48 compared to the pre-industrial level 1850-1900) over the course of an entire year: according to Copernicus, the Earth observation program of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the EU Commission.
Between February '23 and January '24, the global average temperature increased by 1.52 degrees.
Furthermore, January 2024 was the warmest ever recorded globally, with an average air temperature of 13.14 degrees, equal to 0.70 degrees above the 1991-2020 average for January and +0.12 degrees compared at the temperature of the previous record (January 2020).
