A gunman was arrested as he attempted to break into Windsor Castle where Queen Elizabeth was celebrating Christmas with her family.

The Guardian reports it citing police sources. It is a 19-year-old from Southampton who was stopped in the park of Windsor Castle: the young man was unable to enter any building in the complex, it is specified.

He was arrested on charges of violation of a protected site and possession of a weapon, the royals were informed of the news.

“An investigation is underway, we are collaborating with colleagues from Scotland Yard. We can confirm that the security protocols were activated a few moments after the man entered the park, without being able to break into any building, ”the police said.

The queen celebrated Christmas in Windsor with Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the first without her husband Philip, Duke of Edinburgh to whom she dedicated an affectionate homage .
