France will not welcome some of the migrants who recently arrived in Lampedusa. The French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, said this during an interview with Radio Europe 1, before his visit to Rome.

"No, France is not preparing to do it, France wants to help Italy control its borders to prevent people from coming," the minister said in response to a question from the interviewer. "It would be - he added - an error of judgment to consider that migrants, since they arrive in Europe, must be immediately distributed throughout Europe and to France, which largely plays its part."

In the same interview Darmanin explained: «What we want to say to our Italian friends, who I believe are in perfect agreement with us, is that we must protect the external borders of the European Union and above all examine asylum requests immediately. When the conditions are not there, postponing requires sending migrants back to their country."
