The " super short week ", the one lasting only 4 days , is a project that the French government has been studying for some time for public sector workers but now Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has given instructions to all government ministers in their ministries , headquarters and branch offices, to start the experimentation.
"It does not only concern divorced parents", as reported by some French media: the so-called "differentiated weeks - the government clarified today - are aimed at everyone and not just divorced people , not just parents".
And, the prime minister's services further underline, the correct wording is " week in 4 days " and not " of 4 days ", since «at the end of the week there will have been exactly the same number of hours worked».
Attal himself, in his general political speech at the time of his appointment at the end of January, had recalled that he had decided, as Minister of Public Accounts, to experiment with the 4-day week in his administration " without reducing working time ".
A first experiment, at the beginning of 2023 in the tax office in Picardie, in the north, ended in failure, with only 3 employees who asked to try the experiment.
