Dramatic twist in France , today grappling with the second round of the legislative elections. Surprising everyone, overturning the results of the first call to the polls, was the left's conquest of the first step of the podium.
According to the poll by public television France 2, the left-wing New Popular Front is leading the elections and holds between 172 and 192 seats. Macron follows, with 150-170 seats. Marine Le Pen's Rassemblement National was third, stuck at 132-152. Numbers also reported by a second IFOP survey for TF1, which finds the left at the top, followed by Ensemble and the right. If the data were confirmed they would completely overturn the results of the first round.
Meanwhile, the triumph is being celebrated in the headquarters of the New Popular Front, where Jean-Luc Mélenchon immediately spoke after the announcement of the results, proclaiming that «the New Popular Front must govern» and that «the French have rejected the worst solution» , saving the Republic.
Macron, in light of the results, then called for prudence in evaluating the exit polls: "The vote does not answer the question of who will govern", he underlined, as filtered by his entourage. Meanwhile, the president, unlike what was expected, will not speak this evening. Elysée sources reported this. The postponement to wait for the "structuring" of the new Assembly to "take the necessary decisions".
