One of the sons of "El Chapo" Guzman, the fearsome narco boss, has arrived in the United States after being extradited from Mexico to face trial for drug trafficking.

This is Ovidio Guzman Lopez, 33 years old, nicknamed "El Bebè": he was accused in April together with 20 other people of being part of a global drug trafficking network managed by the Sinaloa cartel which used chemical substances from China to cut fentanyl, the infamous opioid that causes thousands of deaths every year in the United States.

Guzman Lopez had been wanted by US authorities since 2019 and was captured by Mexican forces in January in a small town outside Culiacán, capital of the state of Sinaloa.

His father, the most powerful drug lord, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States in 2019, while El Chapo's wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, was released a few days ago in Los Angeles after serving a two-year sentence years.

According to some media, to avoid the harsher penalties provided by American justice for drug trafficking, Guzman Lopez could accept a deal, starting to collaborate with investigators by revealing important secrets about his family and the criminal organization of which he was part.
