Nessy Guerra , a woman originally from Sanremo and mother of a three-year-old girl, has been sentenced for her second conviction in Egypt. She was put on trial for adultery following a complaint filed by her Italian-Egyptian ex-husband, Tamer Hamouda.
Guerra was found guilty in the first instance on February 19th, and the appeal verdict has now arrived, essentially upholding the initial conviction. The judge handed down a six-month sentence. The announcement was made by the woman's lawyer in Italy, Agata Armanetti , who received the news from the Italian consulate in Egypt.
Nessy Guerra has been in forced exile in Egypt for two years to avoid leaving behind her little daughter, whom her ex-husband is preventing her from bringing to Italy.
"They sentenced me to six months in prison in Egypt. We weren't expecting this news, and I'm shocked. I'm afraid of losing my little girl. I'm afraid of ending up in prison in Egypt. I don't know how to ask for help anymore," Guerra said in a video posted on Instagram after the sentencing. "We've made hundreds of appeals, but no one listens to us. The only thing I've tried to do is escape from that man with my little girl and protect her. I truly hope that those in charge, the Italian government, and the institutions will put their hands on their consciences and help us , because we can no longer go on in this situation that is becoming unbearable."
