Tsunami alert in Japan for a violent 7.3 magnitude earthquake in the Tohoku region, at 23:36 local time (15:36 in Italy).

The quake had its epicenter in the sea off the coast of Fukushima prefecture at a depth of 60 kilometers. This was announced by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) which classified the intensity of the earthquake at 6 on the Japanese maximum measurement scale of 7 levels. The tremor, lasting several minutes, was felt with great intensity over a large part of the Kanto area, the Tokyo plain, causing blackouts.

About two million homes have already been without electricity, 700,000 in Tokyo alone. At the moment, reports the operator Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco), there are no anomalies in the Fukushima Daiichi plants, which are being dismantled, and in the Tokai nuclear power plant, located in Ibaraki prefecture, south of Fukushima.

According to the Japanese meteorological agency, tsunami waves of about one meter are expected and for this the population has been asked to keep away from the coasts. The executive continues to follow the emergency through the crisis unit.
