Five drones flew over the French submarine base on Ile Longue, in the harbour of Brest, in the far west of France, on Thursday evening, where the French nuclear deterrent's missile-launching nuclear submarines are based, the local gendarmerie reported.

The maritime artillery battalion protecting the site "carried out several anti-drone fire," according to the same source.

The French base is protected by 120 naval gendarmes, coordinated by a rifle battalion. The site hosts four submarines, which are maintained, at least one of which is permanently at sea to ensure nuclear deterrence.

Five drones were detected by technical means. Drones are not uncommon in this restricted area; on the night between November 17th and 18th, another was reported "over the Crozon Peninsula," which includes Ile Longue.
