But why does Donald Trump seem to attract the electorate of some parts of the Italian right? Maybe because he is conservative and somehow populist? Who knows. Maybe, in part. Saying it differently, mutatis mutandis, if at the time of the yellow-green government Matteo Salvini relied on the expression "Italians first", today, Donald Trump, simplifying to the maximum the terms of his inauguration speech, reiterates the concept of the priority of the interests of America and the Americans. Clearly, there is no question. But it would most likely be a mistake to think that Donald Trump's policies can be transfused into the Italian geopolitical and social context, which is very different even just for the fact of being an integral part of the European structure of which it is also a founding country called to look after its interests together and in harmony with the other Member States. And although American bipartisanship, despite its various internal articulations, would seem to inspire a classification in terms of right and left, nevertheless, such a distinction could be appropriate where, probably, one were limited to not wanting to consider the subjective components that characterize both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party overseas. And probably, it might not be misleading, to believe that Donald Trump's return to the White House, and therefore to the top position, can be considered a consequence not so much, sic et simpliciter, of having made himself the subjective expression of the Republican Party considered, so to speak, and simplifying, right-wing, but, rather, of being the expression and reflection of an ideology so to speak of a middle ground qualifying that significant part of the population probably not inclined to want to identify with one or the other American party tout court, and available, instead, to rely on someone who has made himself the interpreter and will make himself the interpreter of a program with imperative tones and of immediate practical perception in its simplicity to place itself in opposition to the elitism of both the right and the left.

Mutatis mutandis, Donald Trump's victory, due to its immediate resounding effect, could (the conditional seems appropriate) somehow recall the victory of the 5 Star Movement during the yellow-green government. A victory that seems to mark a watershed between before and after. "Panta rei", or "everything flows", said (or at least it is attributed to him) the famous Greek philosopher Heraclitus. The ephemeral duration of everything could constitute the key to understanding the current days. The politics of our days presents itself as being in continuous transformation and the traditional parties seem almost in difficulty in interpreting its becoming.

Donald Trump, with good verisimilitude, with his attitude to simplification and immediacy, to date, seems to have succeeded in offering an interpretation that is both subjective and self-referential of the new (even if not too much considering the previous experience at the White House) that is advancing. And if the impactful effect of his debut seems undeniable, it will certainly be important to observe its resistance, if there will be one, over time.

“Make America Great Again” says Donald Trump. An expression that should require careful reflection on the future of the entire European continent which, for its part, should reorganize itself to become a unitary and shared expression of the common interest aimed at addressing the economic and social challenges of the contingent reality. There does not seem to be room for automatisms, but only for shared decisions. The democracy of which the European Union as a whole could become a shining and renewed expression, could impose itself as a valid counter-altar to Donald Trump's “Make America Great Again”, since the common nature of the decision-making system would seem to be able to ensure the simultaneous and shared participation of all interested parties and therefore the unity of intent. It is always the Union that makes the strength.
