The Economist writes this in its annual guide 'World Ahead': «A second Trump mandate would be a different turning point from the first», writes the newspaper, recalling that « the fate of the world will depend on the ballot papers of tens of thousands of voters only in a handful of states ", in the 2024 US presidential election.

A Trump victory, writes The Economist, " would encourage Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping and would be the greatest threat to the United States itself ."

«China and its friends – the newspaper continues – would rejoice at the proof that American democracy is dysfunctional, and Beijing could easily miscalculate on Taiwan, with catastrophic consequences ».

As for Putin, "he would have an incentive to continue fighting in Ukraine and eliminate former Soviet countries such as Moldova or the Baltic states."

But the greatest threat that Trump represents "is to his own country", claims The Economist. With his election "the moral authority of the USA would decrease, because Americans will have voted for him despite knowing the worst." And, “while pursuing his enemies,” Trump “will wage war on any institution that stands in his way, including the courts and the Department of Justice.”
