Drones of unknown origin have been spotted over four Danish airports, forcing the closure of Aalborg Airport in the north of the country, used for both civilian and military flights, for several hours , according to Danish police.

The sightings occurred in the area of Aalborg, Esbjerg, and Sonderborg airports , and Skrydstrup Air Base. On Monday, the sighting of unidentified drones in the airspace of Copenhagen Airport led to a traffic shutdown for several hours at the Danish capital's airport, as well as at Oslo Airport in Norway. " It was not possible to shoot down the drones, which flew over a very large area ," commented Jesper Bojgaard Madsen of the North Jutland police, adding that no arrests have been made of the alleged operators of the aircraft. The Danish police have launched an investigation in collaboration with the intelligence services and the military.

Following the sightings, the country contacted NATO but has not yet decided whether to activate Article 4. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated this at a press conference, as reported by local media. The article in question stipulates that "the parties shall consult each other whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence, or security of any of the parties is threatened." This is quite different from Article 5, which instead states that "an armed attack against one" member of the Alliance "may be considered an attack against all" members.
