With the population largely vaccinated and protected from serious consequences, after two years of emergency management, there are those who are thinking of completely revolutionizing the way the Covid-19 pandemic is managed.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, interviewed, confirmed the rumors published by El Pais that his government is working on a new disease management plan, similar to the one being put in place for the flu.

"We must evaluate the evolution of Covid from the pandemic situation we have experienced so far towards that of an endemic disease", said Sanchez, underlining that it is a "debate that we are trying to open at the European level".

We need to respond with other tools, "more related to vaccination or self-protection with masks", and get out of the emergency logic and lockdowns

The premier also recalled that over 90% of the population over 12 has completed the vaccination cycle and therefore "the situation is not what it was a year ago".

This is also why Sanchez considers going back to school "safe". Currently, over 32% of children between the ages of 5 and 11 in Spain have been vaccinated with the first dose of the pediatric vaccine. The government's goal is to reach 70% by 7 February. As for the boys in the 12-19 age group, 86.8% completed the cycle with a double dose.

The protocol provides that a class will have to quarantine only if at least 5 infections are registered in that group within a week.
