China has locked down another city of 9 million inhabitants to block the wave of the Omicron variant that is putting a strain on the zero tolerance policy against Covid-19.

The health authorities have decided, with a statement released late yesterday evening, to close Shenyang, in the province of Liaoning, an important industrial center that houses important factories, such as BMW.

They did so after ascertaining 47 new cases. The city now has residential complexes under "closed management", while residents have been banned from any departure and travel without a negative test done within 48 hours.

The province of Jilin has also been in lockdown for days, where the first two victims of the pandemic have been registered after more than a year.

In Shenzen, 17.5 million inhabitants, the blockade has been partially loosened. The inhabitants of the city, in lockdown since Sunday 13 March, have resumed work, the factories have restarted and public transport has restarted.

China is facing the worst coronavirus outbreak since early 2020. Millions of people are in lockdown to dilute clusters without.
