Three hundred tourists, including a group of Italians, stranded in the Inca site of Machu Picchu, in Peru, due to the interruption of rail transport in the Latin American country, in the chaos following the arrest of the former president.

The visitors - who are already in contact with the Italian authorities - were forced to spend the night in the citadel due to violence and vandalism, which damaged the Urubamba-Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu railway line.

Already on 14 December, hundreds of tourists had been blocked in the region by roadblocks organized by demonstrators, including four Italian girls who, thanks to the intervention of the Italian embassy, were first taken to an inn and then transferred to Cusco International Airport.
