The Budapest Pride "belongs to all of Europe because if in a member country of the European Union the Pride march can be banned, then no European voter can feel safe. So this case has become a European affair, no one can be a second-class citizen, neither in Hungary nor in the European Union. All the rights on which European unity was built are uniform and indivisible."
This was stated by Gergely Karácsony, mayor of Budapest during the press conference. «Even though the Pride ban is a "sad thing", "it seems that the government has made a wrong calculation because something really big is happening", the mayor insisted.
And he added: "Hungarian civil society, Hungarian voters and Hungarian citizens do not want this. So, once again, despite homophobic campaigns, acceptance of sexual minorities has increased."
At dawn, Italian street artist Laika posted a provocative poster in downtown Budapest depicting Prime Minister Viktor Orban in a queer version, with a rainbow flag, in support of the LGBTQIA+ community and non-binary activist Maja, who is detained in the country.
