Shamseddine, a 15-year-old teenager who was violently attacked by several peers yesterday as he left the middle school he attended in Viry-Châtillon, died this afternoon in Evry, in the suburbs of Paris. This was announced by the local prosecutor's office. The investigation opened into the attack has not yet revealed the motive for the attack.

The boy, who attended the Les Sablons institute, was returning home after his music lesson, around 4pm, when he was targeted by a group of 3 or 4 people with their faces covered by balaclavas. According to the mayor of Viry-Châtillon, Jean-Marie Vilain, "he was attacked between two flights of stairs by 3 or 4 people who beat him and massacred him".

Interviews of witnesses and residents in the area are underway. "Nothing suggests that it was a fight between neighborhood gangs, the motive is absolutely not clear," vice-prefect Frédérique Camilleri told BFM TV.
