With 222 yes and 208 no, the US House passed the resolution recommending the Justice Department prosecute former cabinet chief Mark Meadows for contempt of Congress. Meadows would in fact have refused to collaborate with the parliamentary commission investigating the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6 last.

Two Republicans voted with the Democrats - the second move of its kind, after the one against former White House strategist Steve Bannon.

The Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who have long been at odds with Donald Trump, voted in favor together with the dem.

If the recommendation is upheld by the Justice Department, Meadows will become the first cabinet chief to be prosecuted after leaving office since HR Haldeman in the Watergate scandal nearly 50 years ago.
