Two Italian citizens were stopped at the Buenos Aires airport while trying to return to Italy with a newborn baby girl born from a surrogate pregnancy. The newspaper La Nación reported today without revealing the identity of the male couple who, after being stopped last Friday, admitted to the authorities that they had agreed to the pregnancy with a woman originally from the city of Rosario . According to the agreement, the baby girl, born on October 10 in a clinic in the Argentine capital, would then be raised in Italy by the couple.

"This is a very difficult case," said an official working on the case, specifying that in Argentina "the matter is not regulated" and that "it is not yet clear what crime it is or who is responsible." However, the investigators' focus - the Argentine newspaper reports - is not on the two Italian citizens, who have been banned from leaving the country, nor on the child's mother.
