An Italian tourist, Andrea Sferrazza, 30, born in Turin, died yesterday after falling from a height of 30 meters while walking along a path closed to transit in the archaeological site of Petra, in Jordan.

The young man, who was traveling alone in the country , was rescued and taken to hospital. By now it was too late, he died of the injuries sustained in the fall.

The police have opened an investigation and an autopsy has been ordered. The family has been informed and is in contact with the Italian embassy in Amman.

Sferrazza had resided in London since spring 2021.
