Unusual accident at Atlanta airport where three people were injured by accidental shots fired by a passenger's weapon during security checks.

When the gun was flagged in his bag, an officer told him not to touch it but the man reached out, grabbed the gun he fired, and then fled.

The alarm was triggered and the airport was evacuated.

Three people were injured during the removal operations and two were taken to hospital.

Despite the escape, the authorities know the passenger's personal details because he had already been identified.

A law passed in Georgia in 2014 allows firearms to be brought into public areas of airports, including cafes, schools and churches, but under federal law it is illegal to carry them to the security area under the authority of the Transportation Security Administration.
