A gigantic floating reception center or, for the (many) detractors, a prison.

We are talking about the "Bibby Stockholm" , the maxi-barge equipped with accommodation that has recently appeared in Portland, in the United Kingdom , ready to host hundreds and hundreds of irregular foreigners and asylum seekers , after the tightening of the government led by Rishi Sunak against the clandestine immigration.

In April, announcing the decision to set up the maxi-barge, the Interior Ministry had spoken of a "significant step" to discourage irregular landings as well as a "much cheaper" solution than hosting migrants in hotels.

As mentioned, the decision to have those arriving without permits in Great Britain stationed in the huge floating structure is causing controversy.

Just as another measure is causing controversy: the Illegal Migration Bill, which provides for a sort of "deportation" of irregular migrants to Rwanda , to make them wait "remotely" for the outcome of their asylum request to the London authorities.

A provision (the result of an agreement with the government of the African state which will collect 140 million euros in exchange) which has been declared illegitimate by the European Court of Human Rights and also by the Court of Appeal in London, as Rwanda is not considered a safe nation for asylum seekers.
