The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has warned that waves of up to three meters high are "possible along some coasts" following today's magnitude 7.2 earthquake off the coast of Peru. The Center had initially ruled out the threat of a tsunami.

The earthquake was recorded 8 km west of Atiquipa, at a depth of 28 km.

In Peru the alert is now high.
