If it weren't for that digital counter of wind and solar projects one might think of madness. Instead, it's all violently true. Up to now, speaking of an ambush, invasion or attack on the "Landscape" of Sardinia could have seemed like a fundamentalist exaggeration. However, day after day, the reality turned out to be far more serious than what emerged from documents and projects. The casket of requests presented to Terna, the arm of the state for electricity connections and transmission, proved to be a bottomless pit, where a much more significant operation was hidden than the already devastating one deposited in the records of the Ministry of Energy Security.

Wind & sun collector

Terna, after all, is the primordial collector of the ravenous voracity of the lords of the Sardinian wind and sun. Its obligation, according to the sacred energy scriptures, is to "connect all those who request it to the grid". As a statutory and social ambition. to be honest, it seems like a huge amount, especially if you apply a modicum of common sense. The digital meter is fine, the quarterly update of electricity connection claims in Sardinia is fine, but leave free access to submitting applications to anyone who wakes up in the morning with the desire to cultivate the thriving "culture" of incentives in Sardinia wind and solar seems excessive to say the least.

The big gamble

The question is simple: how is it possible that the electricity transmission company, de facto of the State, can get to monitor as many projects for Sardinia as needed to give energy to all of Italy? And, above all, is there an institution in Rome, Government or Authority, which is aware of what is happening under the sky of the Sardinian island? If it exists, it can't ignore it. The data we revealed yesterday in our investigation is emblematic: wind projects were presented in Terna's offices, offshore and on land, and solar projects to produce as much energy as would be needed by as many as 50 million inhabitants.

Energy without destiny

The question is pertinent: what is the logic of so many projects and so much "renewable" energy that one would like to grind in Sardinia with air blenders or solar grills? One fact is certain: even in Terna's wildest ambitions it would be impossible to transfer so much energy outside Sardinia, not even if they built ten Tyrrhenian Links, the 970 km long 1000 megawatt cable-lead to transfer energy from the Sardinian coasts to the Sicilian ones , useful only to transform the island into a large wind and solar landfill for the rest of Italy. The reasoning of those who govern energy should be consequential: it is useless to present these projects in Sardinia because the Sardinians will not become 50 million "soon" and it would be foolish to lay a grid of connecting cables between Sardinia and the rest of the Continent transfer 56,770 megawatts of wind and solar energy, nearly 50 times what is used on the island today.

Renewable hangover

In reality, however, no one takes note of this speculative madness which turns day after day into a veritable renewable "hangover", a greed that leads to a frontal attack on the Sardinian landscape. There isn't a single institution that has been able, or worse still wanted to, to put a stop to this mad rush to present cyclopean projects for wind farms or endless expanses of solar panels.

Far West

The Far West that has unleashed in Sardinia is illogical and irrational, if it weren't for that infernal machine of billionaire incentives that revolves around the island. In any sensible state, with a minimum of planning rationality, it would have been decided to pursue the only possible path: the generalized moratorium on this type of speculative plants. Instead, every day that passes, everything becomes more invasive, with Sardinia clearly under attack by lobbies, speculators and multinationals at all levels.

Moratorium

The reality is that without a decisive intervention on the legislative level, even at the regional level, which definitively blocks this environmental and landscape devastation, at the cost of a constitutional clash with the State, there is a risk of a wind massacre on the island. The powers that be, in fact, will continue to pocket billionaires taken from the pockets of citizens through electricity bills, where system charges prevail, including the billionaire incentives intended for the lords of the wind and the sun. A perverse and unsustainable mechanism capable of upsetting the state's financial system heavily conditioned by these copious donations of public money in favor of energetic lobbies.

Skip the bank

It would be enough to analyze the economic and financial consequences of the projects presented in Sardinia, through Terna, to get the exact picture of the incentives that would be paid every year if all those blades or panels were positioned far and wide across the island.

9,525 hectares of panels

Let's start with the endless expanses of solar panels that are planned to be "unloaded" on Sardinian farmland. The electricity connection projects foresee requests for as much as 19,050 megawatts. We are talking about at least ten times the entire current production of Sardinian renewable energy. Using a parameter of two megawatts of power per hectare of panels, quantities reported in the latest projects presented to the Ministry of Energy Security, it means that, in restrictive terms, a good 9,525 hectares of land would be needed to implement all those photovoltaic plans. Based on the average sizing of the panels, it means that the beauty of 38 million silicon panels would be poured into the agricultural fields of the island. Huge damage just for covering the topsoil, not to mention the devastating impact on the landscape. All of this, however, if implemented, would bring the beauty of at least 300,000 euros per year for each megawatt into the pockets of the famished farmers of the solar incentive. Multiplication generates “sci-fi” numbers. For those silicon panels scattered on the island, the State would be called upon to "give away" every year the beauty of 5 billion and 715 million euros in incentives. If we then consider that the period for the donation of public money for these photovoltaic plants is at least twenty years, this means that the total allocation becomes 114 billion. In practice, more than half of the Pnrr, 209 billion, allocated by Europe for the next 4 years, for all of Italy.

2,330 new land shovels

To these must be added the data of terrestrial wind power. In Sardinia, according to the distribution plans of the projects presented in Terna's offices, 210 megawatts of wind power are due in Cagliari, for 35 blades of six MW each, in Nuoro 2,100 MW and 350 blades, in Oristano 1,130 MW and 188 blades, in Sassari 5,780 MW and 964 blades, in Southern Sardinia 4,750 MW and 739 blades. In principle, each megawatt of power corresponds to an annual incentive of 140,000 euros. Each shovel thus earns a good 840,000 euros a year. If we multiply the annual incentive gain for a shovel by the expected 2330, we arrive, overall, at one billion and 957 million euros per year. The sum of the earnings from the panels and blades presented to Terna for the electricity connection brings us to mind-boggling figures: a good 7 billion and 672 thousand euros a year, almost as much as a regional finance company. In the twenty years of the incentive, it would reach 153 billion euros. Insane numbers, capable of sending the United States of America into default, let alone Italy. Sardinia puts the landscape, to pay the bills, however, the Sardinians take care of it.
