Terna submitted to the Ministry of Ecological Transition the request for authorization for the construction and operation of the West section of the Tyrrhenian Link , the one that will connect Sicily and Sardinia.

Important step towards the realization of the work: after the request, in fact, in the coming weeks, the services conferences will be held during which the results of the public consultation and the compliance opinions expressed by the bodies in charge will be evaluated.

The ministry's definitive authorization decree is expected by mid-2023 , then Terna will be able to start construction of the work.

The company led by Stefano Donnarumma launched the public consultation phase for the West section of the Tyrrhenian Link in September 2021. Six meetings organized with local institutions and communities in Termini Imerese (Palermo), Maracalagonis, Quartucciu, Quartu Sant'Elena, Selargius , Settimo San Pietro and Sinnai: the places where to locate the future conversion stations and the route of the underground cables that from the land landing of the submarine cable will reach the same stations have been identified.

In Sardinia , the underground cables will mostly cover existing roads for about thirty kilometers .
