Yael Trepy, the young Cagliari striker who nearly drowned in a swimming pool yesterday afternoon, is in serious condition. Currently hospitalized in intensive care at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, the 2006-born player is in a medically induced coma under constant monitoring: a decision made to avoid further suffering and allow for optimal administration of his treatment. Like his teammates, after Friday's Coppa Italia victory against Arezzo – where he had started – he had the weekend off and was due to rejoin the team this afternoon to resume training.

A chest CT scan performed on Trepy, following the accident that occurred around 6:00 PM yesterday at a villa in Porto Cervo, revealed large amounts of fluid in his lungs, which is impeding oxygen exchange. For this reason, he is currently in a medically induced coma. According to initial reconstructions, the player ended up in the deep end of the pool and found himself in difficulty, as he couldn't swim . Pulled from the water, he was immediately rescued and airlifted to Sassari by helicopter: the timely intervention at the scene of the accident was crucial.

The episode may have been caused by illness . According to initial findings by the State Police, who responded to the scene, Trepy felt ill while bathing in the pool, and, unable to swim, he fell under the water, inhaling a large amount of water into his lungs. Currently, the Prosecutor's Office, which is aware of the facts, does not appear to be conducting an investigation into what happened.
