Before the hour and a half of conversation with Mario Draghi , for one of the longest handover in history. Then the first cdm flash to formalize the offices of the two vice premieres and the undersecretary to the presidency. Again, the careful study of the dossiers on the table , especially the one on energy. And in the evening already an international debut , albeit informal.

First day as a very demanding premier for Giorgia Meloni, who will be in the House tomorrow at 11 for programmatic declarations, with the confidence set at 19 . The vote in the Senate on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, yesterday he met with French President Emmanuel Macron. A cordial and fruitful discussion, lasting over an hour, summarizes Palazzo Chigi in a note.

"During the meeting, albeit informal, all the main European dossiers were discussed : the need to give quick and common answers on expensive energy, support for Ukraine, the difficult economic situation, the management of migratory flows. Italy and France agreed on the desire to continue with a collaboration on the great common challenges at European level and in respect of mutual national interests ", adds the Italian government.

The most important issue is that of the gas price ceiling , which at the last European Council pushed away the Paris-Berlin axis. Against Germany's choice to go ahead alone, with the 200 billion shield, however, Meloni took sides immediately, using almost the same words as her predecessor at Palazzo Chigi. And he repeats it to the French president. The aim of the summit is also to send a signal of detente after the controversies surrounding the vote sparked by the French minister Laurence Boone ("we will monitor respect for values and the rule of law", he said).

Before seeing Macron, Meloni had discussed all these issues for a long time with the outgoing Prime Minister , who welcomed her on the staircase with a clap of his hands and a pat on the shoulder after asking her "how are you?".

The neo-premier admits that the emotion is strong, poses in favor of photographers and then closes herself in the president's studio. The two confront each other face to face, and at the end they are joined by Roberto Garofoli, outgoing undersecretary, and by Alfredo Mantovano, fresh from the oath. An analysis of the international situation, starting from the war in Ukraine, and of the economic situation occupy a good part of the first hour of the meeting. When the two undersecretaries enter, we move on to more concrete questions, on measures to counter the rise in bills , on the implementation of the NRP, on the maneuver that the new government will have to write in record time.

Meloni immediately gets to work: taking the photos and celebrating the moment that is still historic, as she tweets herself, now we have to "write the future". There are big "responsibilities" that await the executive and the "difficult" situation but the government will be up to the "emergencies" of the country. Meloni is aware, explains more than one minister, that it starts in a climate of "distrust" on the part of the press if not of "hostility", but she said she was sure that "with the commitment of all" the center-right executive it will be a surprise".
