It ends with two black smokes and a crack to quickly close the fifth day of voting in the House to elect the new President of the Republic.

The morning vote ended with Elisabetta Casellati's flpo, a candidacy put forward by the center-right, which however stopped (the quorum at 505) with 382 preferences, followed by 46 votes for Mattarella, 38 for Di Matteo, 8 for Berlusconi, 7 for Tajani and Cartabia, 6 for Casini, 3 for Draghi, 2 for Belloni and Joseph Cesar Perrin, ideologue of Union Valdotaine.

A failure, that of the President of the Senate, sanctioned - as well as by the announced abstention of the center-left - also by numerous "snipers" within the center-right.

In the afternoon session, however, the name of the outgoing president Sergio Mattarella prevailed, and with an avalanche, who collected 336 votes, in front of the prosecutor Di Matteo, who obtained 41 votes. And then: Casini 9, Manconi 8. Draghi and Cartabia have collected 5, Belloni 4, Amato 3, Casellati 2.

But even in this case abstention reigned: 445 voters who defected called it, while the blank ballots were more than a hundred.

Another smoke - the sixth - black, interlocutory, which however took place in conjunction with a series of meetings between the leaders.

Matteo Salvini saw Enrico Letta, Giuseppe Conte and also Mario Draghi. Then he met the big names of Forza Italia. And the dialogue has opened up new scenarios.

"We are discussing a name. I do not know if Saturday will be a good day. We try to be as quick and efficient as possible: everyone is a minority but it is important that within the majority that supports the government there is an agreement, which can be even wider ”, said the secretary of the Democratic Party Letta.

Salvini, on the other hand, went into more detail: "I'm working to have a female president, a smart woman, I don't mention names or surnames".

Words that the president of the M5S Giuseppe Conte commented as follows: "I have the impression that there is Salvini's sensitivity, I hope for the whole parliament, for the possibility of a female president, the M5s has always said so". And, always Conte, explained that we think about two “super partes” figures.

From the Nazarene, the dem then made it known: "After the failure of the wall against wall wanted by the center-right, discussions and discussions on some possible solutions are finally underway. Among these also female candidates of absolute value. But seriousness is needed, the worst thing is to continue with the method of these days which consists in burning every possibility of agreement with sudden leaps forward. For us it remains fundamental to preserve the unity of the government majority ".

"In the meantime - continue the dem - we invite everyone to take note of the push that for two days and in a transversal way in Parliament has been in favor of the reconfirmation of President Mattarella".

At the end of the day, the sums: the indications and rumors lead to the hypothesis of proposing in the classroom the name, hopefully shared, of Elisabetta Belloni ( WHO IS ), Paola Severino or Marta Cartabia.

The first appears to be more "papabile", but the option is rejected by Forza Italia (which also rejects Severino and announces to open negotiations in solitude), Leu and by Italia Viva, according to which: "The head of the secret services cannot go at the Quirinale ".

"That the head of the secret services in office becomes President of the Republic is unacceptable. It is an unprecedented drift. I will not vote for Elisabetta Belloni. She is a friend of mine. But one does not go to the Quirinale from the Secret Services: those who do not understand it will not has institutional culture ", the comment of Matteo Renzi, leader of IV.

The pentastellato Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio also thunders on Belloni: “I find it unseemly that a high profile like that of Elisabetta Belloni has been thrown into the public debate. Without a shared agreement. I said it yesterday: before burning names it was necessary to find the agreement of the government majority. All this, moreover, after the second office of the state was exposed today. This is not good, it is not the right method ", the words of Di Maio.

The alternatives to the male could be Pier Ferdinando Casini. Or the "usual" Mario Draghi. Or, again, the premier in office - rumors say this too - could mediate with Mattarella, to ask him for an encore, which he has always said he does not want to do, but which, given the stalemate, could finally be unavoidable.
