Jannik Sinner beat Gabriel Diallo 6-2 7-6(6) at the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati in one hour and 52 minutes of play: he thus secured qualification for the round of 16.

The match started with a delay of over an hour, due to a blackout that forced the suspension of some previous matches. Among these was the one between Lorenzo Sonego and Taylor Fritz, which saw the Italian eliminated by a score of 7-6(4) 7-5 .

Sinner achieved a difficult victory in just under two hours, almost double the time it took him on Saturday in his debut match against Daniel Galán , which earned him access to the round of 16: he will face the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, who beat the American Tommy Paul 5-7 6-3 6-4 .
