The hypothesis of privatization of the "Mameli" airport in Elmas and the merger of the airports in Northern Sardinia continues to cause discussion. And the chorus of "no" to the possibility of a transfer to private individuals is increasingly widespread and is raised from many quarters.

“Family jewels are not for sale. Which entrepreneur would sell his company with positive indicators? But let's be clear: even if it were a loss, an island's main airport must not be sold. It is not for nothing that in all the major European island regions the airports are controlled by the public sector», says Alberto Bertolotti, president of Confcommercio Sud Sardegna .
The trade unions are on the same wavelength. It is, said Simona Fanzecco, secretary of the metropolitan labor chamber of the CGIL of Cagliari , "an operation contrary to the interests of the community, potentially harmful to the right to mobility and territorial continuity, harmful to the future of the economic and tourist system not only of the metropolitan area but of the whole South and of the Island».
«We are speaking - adds Fanzecco - of a port of call built and upgraded with public funds, with a positive balance sheet and conspicuous growth margins. So there are all the elements why privatization cannot even be hypothesized».
In recent days the Region , through the voice of Transport Councilor Antonio Moro , reiterated its opposition to the "climbing" of the F2i fund and to the hypothesis of privatization of the Cagliari airport and the "merger" of the airports of Olbia and Alghero.

But Federalberghi Sardegna also takes sides with the no front: "The battle continues", declared the president Fausto Mura in a joint note with Alberto Bertolotti of Confcommercio. Adding: "It is necessary not to let our guard down to defend the Cagliari airport and leave it in the hands of the Sardinians, free and strong".
