Protests by tourists and residents, complaints against Abbanoa staff (who bear no responsibility), communications to users immediately following outages without any possibility of planning, and municipal administrations powerless to deal with the disruption.
These are the disastrous results of sudden interruptions (this is the third time it has happened in July) of the water supply in a large area of Northern Sardinia, from Sassari to Santa Teresa Gallura and La Maddalena.
On Wednesday, another water supply outage was announced until 12 noon today, and now customers have been informed that the outage will be extended until midday tomorrow.
The damage to tourism and hospitality businesses is significant, with some even facing business closures.
The disruption affects parts of the city of Sassari and numerous other locations listed on the Abbanoa website: "Losses of pressure and interruptions persist in areas of Gallura, such as some locations in Santa Teresa di Gallura (Conca Verde, Valle dell'Erica, San Pasquale and Santa Reparata), Aglientu (Vignola, Portobello, Rena Majore, La Foci, Lu Lucchesu, Contra Ruja), Palau and La Maddalena."
The problem is that Enas, Sardinia's water authority, cannot "guarantee supplies from the Coghinas for interventions at the intake point in the main reservoir in northern Sardinia." Therefore, the water is not feeding the Truncu Reale and Pedra Majore purification plants. And even the emergency protocol to supply Truncu Reale from the Cuga reservoir is not producing results.
To make matters worse, the situation, which could continue into the coming weeks, is the work planned by Enas in the middle of summer on the Pedra Majore networks, with the tourist villages full of people .
Abbanoa is receiving numerous reports; some villages in Gallura (Vignola, Portobello, Rena Majore) are in a difficult, if not dramatic, situation.
Some village administrators have been heavily criticized by condominium owners for failing to schedule outages, which, however, is not their fault.
