The regulatory vacuum, the speculative aims, the silent consent of the entities involved.
Sardinia is in the crosshairs: not only for offshore interests at sea, but also for onshore ones. Multinational wind, photovoltaic, and agrivoltaic companies are re-presenting projects everywhere. Between Villanova Monteleone and Ittiri, in the Griffon vulture repopulation oasis on Monte Unturzu, a German group is building ten new wind turbines. And now, the monument of monuments, the Nuragic Palace of Barumini, is once again at risk. To these must be added many of the sites that time has preserved to this day in an extraordinary state of preservation: the Sacred Well of Santa Cristina, the Basilica of Saccargia, the Domus de Janas S'Incantu di Putifigari, and many others.
The situation
In Barumini, news broke in recent days that the "Luminu" project has been relaunched. The project, consisting of 17 wind turbines, each with a nominal capacity of 6.6 megawatts, for a total capacity of 112.2 megawatts, will be built in the municipalities of Barumini, Escolca, Gergei, Las Plassas, and Villanovafranca, along with connection works also in the municipalities of Genoni, Gesturi, and Nuragus. This eco-monster overlooks the Nuragic Palace discovered by Giovanni Lilliu, a member of the Lincei Academy, a unique heritage site . The implementation of this major plan seemed to be averted, but the Sardinian regulatory vacuum and the new national law on suitable areas are forcing the proposing company to reconsider its plans for an energy transition that seriously risks ruining one of Sardinia's most popular historical and archaeological sites.
