The Tempio Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the statements of the young Algerian man arrested Friday evening after stabbing four people in Olbia. Part of what he said this morning before Tempio Preliminary Investigating Judge Marcella Pinna is classified.

The 31-year-old man was arrested by Olbia police officers after breaking into a restaurant on Via Vittorio Veneto, in the heart of the Gallura city. This morning, the young Algerian national, represented by lawyer Maurizio Mani, appeared before investigating judge Marcella Pinna and answered her questions. The man, with no criminal record, who arrived in Olbia a year ago, told the investigating judge everything, describing the circumstances leading up to the restaurant break-in.

The Algerian man said he repeatedly attempted, including at another location, to attract the attention of those present, desperately pleading for someone to call the police for help. The reason for this call for help is the subject of an investigation launched by the State Police. The incidents were reportedly captured by a video surveillance system, and the footage will now be reviewed by investigators.

Preliminary investigating judge Marcella Pinna confirmed the arrest and ordered the young Algerian citizen to be held in pre-trial detention. The man apologized for what happened late last Friday evening and stated that before storming the restaurant where he injured four people, he had entered another restaurant to ask for help, but to no avail.
