Controversy following the authorities' decision to proceed with the slaughter of wild boars on the island of Spargi , following attacks on tourists and in particular on a child , who was bitten in the lower abdomen by one of the specimens that populate one of the pearls of the La Maddalena archipelago.

The animal rights association LNDC Animal Protection has taken the field against the ordinance, asking for the decision to be annulled.

"The umpteenth useless bloodshed is being repeated in Spargi, with violent and ineffective measures", says Piera Rosati , president of the association. "As with the bears in Trentino, here too, reading the order of the mayor of Maddalena, dangerous animals will be killed, therefore those that according to the authorities were the protagonists of the cases of aggression against humans and the latest one that occurred in Cala Corsara. A new bloody and sterile operation that demonstrates the inability of politics to invest in medium and long-term solutions that are respectful of fauna , the environment and in general of the life of other living beings, such as the education of people and tourists for a mutual and respectful coexistence with animals that simply inhabit 'their home', or defend their cubs from human actions that they consider threatening".

"The mayor's order specifically refers to 'particularly dangerous' wild boars, so it is not clear on what criteria the marksmen will use to decide which animals to kill in today's slaughter ," echoes LNDC Animal Protection lawyer Michele Pezone . Adding: "Despite the fact that this morning there were articles and press agencies that spoke of the killing of 4-5 animals defined as 'hybrids' and more confident with humans, therefore more dangerous, the official order does not mention this detail. In any case, the fundamental point remains: how will the marksmen identify and kill the 'dangerous' animals today? We reiterate that the order issued does not in any way allow for the real identification of these animals, much less the resolution of the problem."
